Skyroot's Hypersonic Rocket "Vikram-S" success, marks a historic new leap for India's Private Space Tech

Unicorn, and Space-tech startup Skyroot Aerospace created history by launching India’s first private rocket “Vikram-s” successfully from ISRO’s launchpad in Sriharikota on 18th November 2022. A truly historic moment for India’s private sector space exploration industry.

The Vikram-S sub-orbital solid stage rocket, which can reach hypersonic speeds which was launched at 11:30 AM, reached an apogee of 89.5 kilometers, meeting all mission criteria. Earlier, a new launch window between 15 and 19 of November was given to Skyroot Aerospace by the space regulator, IN-SPACe.

Soon after the launch Co-founder of Skyroot said “We made history today by launching India’s first private rocket. It is a symbol of new India, and just the #Prarambh of a great future.”

The Vikram -S rocket, validates ~80% of the technologies that will be used in Vikram-1 orbital vehicle that is planned for launch next year. Vikram-s on its maiden flight to space carried three customer payloads, representing Space Kidz India, Bazoomq Armenia and N-Space Tech India.

The mission titled “Prarambh” to signified the maiden space launch for Skyroot and the first for the Indian private space sector. The rocket was built using advanced technologies including carbon composite structures and 3D-printed components, over a period of two years.
